Frequently Asked Questions from our ATV Live Video Chat

Q. An ATV used for ice fishing breaks through the ice & sinks in the lake, any coverage for the ATV or its recovery?

A. We would find coverage under Comprehensive for the vehicle and under BI/PD if the insured is required to do a recovery of the vehicle.

Q. There is no minimum age requirement for operators of off-road vehicles. Do the youth participants driving the ATV need to be listed on the policy if in household?

 A. All of the following drivers are considered operators & must be listed on the policy:

  • Household residents who may operate the vehicle regardless of frequency.
Note: College students away at school are considered household residents unless they have their own permanent address.
  • Operators that have an ownership interest in any of the vehicles.
  • Any non-resident who regularly uses or has access to an insured vehicle more than 12 times per year.
Note: Non-resident drivers that operate listed vehicle 12 or fewer times per year do not need to be listed. Coverage will apply provided that the driver has the permission of the insured driver.

Q. What about customized ATVs and stated value?  Will you cover stated value vehicles?

 A. AGREED VALUE - We require the following to be insured as Agreed Value (maximum insurable value $50,000):

› Motorcycles that are listed in the N.A.D.A. Appraisal Guide and/or Kelley Blue Book  but do not show a resale value.

› Motorcycles 25 years old and older.

The limit of liability for Physical Damage losses to a motorcycle insured with Agreed Value will be the LOWER of:

› Amount necessary to repair the damaged property to its pre-loss condition; or

› Agreed Value shown on the declarations page.

The Agreed Value, which is provided by the insured and must be agreed to by Progressive, is the amount of coverage the insured desires, up to the market value of the motorcycle at the time of application, including the market value of all accessories. Please remind the insured to update the Agreed Value on the policy whenever it changes.

 A. No – not at this time.

A. Transport Trailer coverage provides comprehensive and collision coverage up to $10,000.  At time of loss, Comprehensive or Collision deductible will apply based on cause of loss to trailer.

Q. In the states required to register them so they must buy insurance but they do not leave the premises, is there a special rate for that?

 A. Whether the unit is used on or off the property the rate will be the same.  There is no discount if the ATV is just used on the insured’s property.

 Q.  If a "Transporting Trailer" insured on a Progressive ATV Policy is stolen from the insured's premises by itself without the ATV being stolen too, is the insured's trailer still covered or not?

A. Yes – There would be coverage as long as there is comprehensive coverage on the trailer.  Transport Trailer Physical Damage Coverage provides Comprehensive and Collision coverage to your transport trailer. A transport trailer is any non-motorized trailer pulled by a car, truck or motorhome and is designed for transporting a motorcycle, or off road vehicle listed on the motorcycle policy. Only one transport trailer available per policy. Up to $10,000 of coverage is available. In the event of a claim, it will be the insured's responsibility to verify the value of the transport trailer.
